Theatre maker and dramaturge Isabel van Hauwe invites you to take a fresh look at Bérénice. In her introduction, she zooms in on the work of director Romeo Castellucci – known for his visually overwhelming style, symbolism and the room he leaves for interpretation. What makes his work so typically "Castellucci"? And how does that help you as a spectator to approach the piece? Van Hauwe encourages the audience to let go of their own associations and to open up. She provides tools to broaden your view: what can you expect, what does the work say without words, and who is the iconic Isabelle Huppert – the actress who portrays Bérénice? The introduction offers context, but above all space to enter the performance with curiosity. Everyone gets something different out of it – and that is exactly the intention.

Van Hauwe is a dramaturge and theatre maker. In 2021, she graduated from the MA International Dramaturgy course at the University of Amsterdam, and in 2024 obtained her BA in Education & Directing at the Toneelacademie in Maastricht. Last year, Van Hauwe worked as a dramaturge at Productiehuis Rotterdam, the production Goodbye P0rn by dance collective Teddy's Last Ride at the Grand Theater in Groningen and the multiplayer VR experience Heroes by director Robin Coops.
