Lydia Tár (masterfully played by Cate Blanchett) leads a world‑renowned orchestra and prepares for a pivotal performance of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony nr. 5, a milestone that symbolizes the peak of her artistic power. For the film, Hildur Guðnadóttir, associate artist of the Holland Festival 2026, composed the original score, combining her distinctive layered and atmospheric style with elements from the world of classical music.

But the celebrated maestro’s carefully constructed career begins to crumble when her reputation comes under scrutiny amid allegations of misconduct and #MeToo‑related controversy. Tár is not a black-and-white story about cancel culture, but a nuanced portrait of power – and its unraveling. Masterfully captured in the score, in which Lydia Tár’s hallucinations become almost tangible.

Prior to the screening, an introductory conversation with Hildur Guðnadóttir will explore what this film means to her and why she chose to show it.

Tár is part of Hildur's Movie Picks: four films selected by associate artist Hildur Guðnadóttir, screening at EYE. The other films are Joker, Joker: Folie à Deux and Persona.
