Salukat

Jameszoo, Gamelan Salukat, Het Muziek

Rooted in jazz and experimental electronics, Jameszoo (Mitchel van Dinther) brings together the musicians of Het Muziek and the Indonesian gamelan ensemble Gamelan Salukat for an evening of sparkling, new music. House, his latest work, co-written by Niels Broos and Matthew Bourne, explores what a sonic space that feels like ‘home’ might sound like. The piece combines wind and string instruments, constructed from a box of musical Lego, and draws strong inspiration from the rich culture of gamelan and the magical compositions of Dewa Alit, founder of the gamelan ensemble Salukat.

As a producer and DJ, Jameszoo has collaborated with artists including Thundercat, Dorian Concept, Marina Herlop, Jamie Woon, and the Metropole Orkest, developing a distinctive sound where improvisation and electronics seamlessly merge. Het Muziek is regarded as a pioneering ensemble for new music, exploring what music can be in collaboration with unexpected partners and across diverse disciplines, from 20th-century masterpieces to the very latest works. Founded by Balinese composer Dewa Alit, Gamelan Salukat performs on a unique, custom-designed set of instruments tuned in a ten-tone scale. Here, tradition and radical innovation come together in a sonic universe that is as layered as it is unpredictable.
