Opera's in het park: Der Freischütz

Holland Festival, De Nationale Opera

Free

A special edition with the most wonderful operas outside on a large screen

The story of Der Freischütz (‘The Freeshooter’) is steeped in Romanticism. In order to marry Agathe, the king’s beautiful daughter, the ambitious young archer Max enlists the help of the Devil.

Not only does he have to win the annual archery contest , he also has to take on a narrow-minded society that holds on to the existing order and traditions. Der Freischütz pits the old world against a new one. Which traditions and customs should be preserved? Which have to change, and what will this take?

This edition, the yearly, freely accessible Opera in the park not only consists of a large-screen broadcasting of Der Freischütz, shown simultaneously with the performance at the Dutch National Opera & Ballet. We are also looking back on our history and asked the audience which opera in the park it would like to see once more. The public chose, and by a narrow margin the choice fell on Falstaff by Giuseppe Verdi.

Bring your picnic basket to enjoy a wonderful show in the beautiful Frankendael park.
