Richard Alexander

Profile

Richard Alexander Janssen studied at the Dutch Film Academy before embarking on a career in pop music, which eventually led him to become one of the most highly acclaimed Dutch rock/pop musicians of the ‘80s and ‘90s. At a young age, he won the prestigious Edison Prize twice and collaborated with renowned producers such as Mick Ronson (Bowie).

In 2004, Janssen teamed up with director Susanne Kennedy, and their artistic collaboration has lasted nearly 20 years. Together, they developed a unique theatre audio concept in which every line of the script is recorded separately and then edited with sound and music to create one long audio composition. This composition is then performed and lip-synced by the actors on stage.

Their innovative approach has resulted in award-winning plays such as Fegefeuer in Ingolstadt, Warum lauft Herr R. Amok, Drei Schwestern (Holland Festival 2020), Ultraworld, and many more.
