Ragnar Kjartansson (1976, Iceland) is an Icelandic performance and visual artist working across every medium he can conceive, from large-scale video installation, performance, theatre, music, to ceramics and painting. His works explore endurance, clichés, irony, and romantic yearning, often unfolding repeatedly over extended durations.
Major projects, including The Visitors (2012), and other works of his have been widely exhibited in a number of solo shows in Europe and in the United States. Living and working in Reykjavík, Kjartansson represented Iceland at the Venice Biennale (2009) and received the Ars Fennica Award (2019). In 2016, he was honoured as the year's Reykjavík City Artist.
