For every video Emma Van der Put selects a specific location or situation. With this decision, the framework of the film is determined. In her position as an observer, she tries to maintain a balance between empathy and detachment. Mother establishes a hypnotic, temporary encounter between the eyes of a woman on the screen and the eyes of a viewer. Seemingly motionless, the image captures us through the directness of the shot and its emotional proximity. This looped video oscillates between darkness and light, becoming a meditation on life cycle. Flame of fire mirrored in the eyes resembles hearth, connecting us with home, with ourselves.
