A prestigious fashion house is tasked with the assignment of a lifetime: designing the wedding dress of a British princess. For months, seamstresses, designers, and embroiderers labor in total secrecy across Paris, Alençon, and Mumbai. Every stitch demands perfection, every detail absolute discretion – until their lives take an unexpected, dramatic turn.

'What’s most important for me is to show that these victims also possess power: the power of their knowledge. It won’t necessarily save them, but it gives them dignity, an ability to participate in the beauty of the world.'

— Caroline Guiela Nguyen, director

In LACRIMA, director Caroline Guiela Nguyen offers a rare, intimate glimpse behind the gilded curtains of haute couture. The performance traces the hands that bring the dress to life: from a couture atelier in Paris, through a lace workshop in Alençon, to an embroidery studio in Mumbai, where centuries-old craftsmanship is passed down from generation to generation. At the same time, LACRIMA asks an urgent question: how are we looking at the inequalities and postcolonial power behind the glamour and beauty of the haute couture?

The dress itself becomes a symbol of visibility: dazzling on a princess, invisible in the hands that made it. With an open set and dynamic video projections revealing every delicate stitch across all three ateliers simultaneously, LACRIMA unfolds like a gripping drama.
