Kwinnie Lê
Profile
Kwinnie Lê (Leiderdorp, 1995) is a visual artist, researcher, poet and shape-shifter exploring the intersection of body and language. Her work is greatly influenced by her Vietnamese cultural background. In her art, Lê hopes to present and amplify other stories to serve as counternarratives to the received lore in its regular form. Taking mythology, folklore and oral histories as a basis, she situates ancestral traditions in a contemporary urban context. She is currently researching the resurgence, reclamation and (re)inscriptions of traditional tattoo practices, for which she uses semi-fictional narratives as a mode of critical speculation on a decolonised future.
Lê recently had exhibitions at the Asia Art Museum in San Francisco, Museum de Lakenhal in Leiden and the Other Futures Festival in Amsterdam.
