Huang Ruo

Huang Ruo (1976, China) is a composer, pianist, and vocalist based in the United States. In his work, he brings together Eastern and Western traditions in orchestral works, chamber music, opera, and multimedia projects, including architectural installations. He uses his own compositional method, which he calls “Dimensionalism.”
He began studying music and composition at the age of six. He studied at Oberlin College and Conservatory and at the Juilliard School. He was also a co-founder of the International Contemporary Ensemble and artistic director of the cross-genre ensemble Future in REverse. Huang Ruo was the first composer-in-residence at the Concertgebouw. His body of work includes operas such as An American Soldier and large-scale compositions performed worldwide.
