Gabber Modus Operandi

While the name refers to a music genre invented in the Netherlands, Gabber Modus Operandi is an Indonesian duo founded by Kasimyn and Ican Harem. The two musicians found they shared an obsession with all sorts of intense sounds. Their extreme productions are inspired by a broad range of styles. In its music, GMO fuses extreme music genres like gabber, footwork, grindcore and noise with unique Indonesian music styles like jathilan (a trance dance where an animal spirit takes possession of the body), dangdut koplo (a subgenre of a popular Indonesian music style) and funkot (which is reminiscent of both European happy hardcore and dangdut). Kasimyn produces the tracks and Ican Harem does the vocals. Using samples from traditional Indonesian music (such as Balinese gamelan), Gabber Modus Operandi aims to fuse humour, dark contemporary music and Indonesian tradition.
