DAVID HUP

Archive 2022

After two bad years during the pandemic, the anniversary edition saw the festival once again doing what it was started for 75 years earlier and offer outstanding international productions. The festival’s many highlights included audience favourite Sami Yusuf performing When Paths Meet in a sold-out Concertgebouw and Isabelle Huppert in an adaptation of The Cherry Orchard, directed by Tiago Rodrigues. The associate artists were French-Beninese singer Angélique Kidjo (1960) and German theatre director Nicolas Stemann (1968). Kidjo was nothing short of enchanting with her creation story Ifé with music by Phillip Glass. Stemann closed the festival with the dystopian, albeit comical musical theatre piece Kein Licht.
