Holland Festival started the new millennium with a bold vision of the times. Major developments in electronic music were showcased in Electronic Soundwaves, with pioneers like Edwin van der Heide, Florentijn Boddendijk and Ryoji Ikeda. There was a large programme around the top tier of theatre from the lowlands, with makers and companies like Les Ballets C. de la B., Luk Perceval, TG Stan and Trust. The festival also looked back at the past century, with a large programme around musical innovator Frank Zappa.
