What is your identity? Who are you really? What are your roots and where is home? Inspired by the themes of Bill T. Jones’ work, the Poetry Circle is organising an evening exploring all these questions. Four spoken word artists, each from very different backgrounds, will present their work and reflect on this topic. Sjaan Flikweert gives a preview of her audiovisual spoken word work Ergens thuis en de ruimte (‘somewhere at home and the space’) with live music composed by Marc Alberto. Jasper Albinus draws on his experiences as a bicultural person. Poet and songwriter Jörgen Gario, who was born on the island of Sint Maarten, combines guitar and ukelele with lyrics in Dutch, English and Papiamento. And Rachel Rumai uses spoken word as a dynamic bridge between art and political activism.
