Profile
The German Ensemble Modern, founded in 1980, is considered to be one of the leading contemporary music ensembles. The ensemble resides in Frankfurt and consists of twenty soloists of ten different nationalities. In 1998, Ensemble Modern founded the first orchestra to exclusively play music from the 20th and 21st century: the Ensemble Modern Orchestra. The Ensemble Modern soloists form the basis of the orchestra, which may consist of anything between 30 and 130 musicians. They enjoy the support of musicians all over the world that the ensemble was in contact with throughout the past forty years. This includes young players and specialists in contemporary music who completed their studies at the International Ensemble Modern Academy.
The Ensemble Modern Orchestra was founded to advocate contemporary orchestral music. It offers modern-day composers a high-quality and hands-on instrument to realise their ideas. The Ensemble Modern Orchestra has performed new work by Heiner Goebbels, Hanspeter Kyburz and John Adams, among others. The orchestra will make its debut at the Holland Festival in 2022.
