Kasia Tórz new Holland Festival Theatre and Dance programme manager

Starting 1 September, Kasia Tórz will be the Holland Festival Theatre and Dance programme manager. She will comprise the Holland Festival’s new artistic team together with director Emily Ansenk, Music and Musical Theatre programme manager Jochem Valkenburg and Katinka Enkhuizen, who will begin as programmer on 1 October.

Kasia Tórz  (Poznań, 1982) is a curator, researcher and writer. After receiving a master’s degree in philosophy at the University of Warsaw, she studied at a.pass (advanced performance and scenography studies) in Brussels and completed her doctorate at the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. From 2007 until 2011, she worked on projects like Twilight with the Polish urban artistic group Twożywo.

She programmed artistic projects and publications at the National Audiovisual Institute in Warsaw (2011-2017), incorporating Polish audiovisual heritage, a new critical approach and new digital visual media. From 2010 until 2019, she programmed and coordinated ‘The Idioms’, a thematic thread in the Malta Festival Poznań’s programming, where she worked with curators like Romeo Castellucci, Lotte van den Berg, Tim Etchells, Rodrigo García, Stefan Kaegi, Needcompany and Nástio Mosquito. She has contributed to magazines like Didaskalia, Teatr and Klaxon and edited various books about theatre, art and culture. From 2019 until 2021, Kasia Tórz worked together with Needcompany from Brussels, where she was responsible for the artistic and programme development. Outside of her work, Kasia Tórz continued her writing and reflection practice. Between 2017 and 2019, she did academic research on Gisèle Vienne’s theatre work, completing her doctoral thesis in 2021: The Posthuman Theatre of Gisèle Vienne, based on her close, participatory observation of the creation process of Crowd (Holland Festival, 2017), which became a ‘biography’ of this piece. Tórz is a regular contributor to books and magazines about the performing arts. 

The 76th edition of the Holland Festival will take place in Amsterdam in June 2023.
