Vanaf deze oudste Amsterdamse plek wenst de Oude Kerk het Holland Festival veel gedurfde, culturele dynamiek toe! Het Holland Festival moet eeuwig blijven, net als de Oude Kerk.

The famous Holland Festival, with its commitment to progressive and innovative programming, is hosting a tribute to the greatest Arab singer of all time, Oum Kalthoum, in a production of the Beiteddine Festival of Lebanon. It is with great pride that the Beiteddine Festival embarks on this cross-cultural encounter with the Holland Festival in bringing the best of classical Arabic music to a new audience. The Holland Festival is one of the best and most visionary arts festivals in the world. I am honoured indeed to be invited to perform there a second time--and am really thrilled and excited to be collaboratiing with such talented Dutch artists as Reza Namavar and the Cameleon Ensemble.
Het Holland Festival is een jaarlijks terugkerend cultureel hoogtepunt waar ik me al maanden van te voren op verheug. Het is een eer en een genoegen om als lid van het bestuur een bijdrage te mogen leveren aan één van de meest toonaangevende culturele festivals van de wereld.
The Festival is absolutely the prime destination internationally to discover the deepest and most significant experiences in the arts today. The extent to which this has consistently been the case over such a long period of time is truly remarkable.
Ein Gefühl, dass die Welt auf einen rohen Kern nicht weiter zerlegbarer Begriffe zusammenschrumpft. Dass die Namen der Dinge langsam den Dingen selbst in die Vergessenheit folgen. Farben. Die Namen von Vögeln. Dinge, die man essen konnte. Schließlich die Namen von Dingen, die man für wahr hielt. Wie viel ist schon verschwunden? Das heilige Idiom wird seiner Bezüge und damit seiner Wirklichkeit beraubt. Zieht sich zusammen wie etwas, das Wärme zu halten versucht. Und irgendwann endgültig erlöschen wird.
Geniet dubbel: word begunstiger zoals ik.
In juni ga ik nooit met vakantie. Dan reis ik cultureel, in mijn theaterstoel. Bij het HF. Aan het eind van de maand heb ik meer van de wereld gezien.
De grootste verrassingen en de mooiste kadootjes in Nederland Cultuurland komen steevast tijdens het HF; Juni - niet de zomermaand om het land te verlaten.
We had the pleasure of attending several events and performances at the 2007 edition of the Holland Festival. We were based in Berlin for most of that year and before returning to Australia both of us had the opportunity to experience, compare and contrast most of the major European art festivals. And without doubt, from a non-European perspective, the Holland Festival has a clear leadership position. For myself I would regard it as being amongst the top three in Europe. Put simply, the programming of the festival presents a rigorous mix of major cultural figures and their work, in combination with new investigations into form and arts innovation. There is a clear assertion of international standards being created, not just aspired to.
Ob als Zuschauer, oder ob als eingeladener Regisseur: wann immer ich in den vergangenen Jahren am HOLLAND FESTIVAL teilhaben durfte, empfand ich den künstlerischen Reichtum und die außerordentliche Vielfalt dieses Festivals als besonders bemerkenswert. Und auch das so eigene Flair der Stadt schafft jedes Mal eine geradezu magische Festivalatmosphäre, auf die ich mich auch in diesem Jahr wieder sehr freue, wie auch auf das neugierige, inspirierte und dankbare Amsterdamer Publikum.
(About Pascal Dusapin and her role in the his opera Passion, HF 2009) Having spent months learning this role, having performed it many times, and now revisiting it for HF 2009, I am struck with how, each time, each phrase that Dusapin created is so fresh, so full of possibility. He challenges me with his writing, to be him, to be his voice and remain myself, to remain myself and to go far away from what I can consciously understand, to give up on understanding and just SING and trust that it is enough. And it is! I am very grateful to him for every note of this opera, every note of both the voices and the orchestra.
Het Holland Festival slaagt er al 15 jaar in onze monumentale gebouwen te eren met bijzondere evenementen en voorstellingen. Het lijkt iedere keer alsof de voorstelingen gemaakt zijn voor de ruimtes waarin ze plaatsvinden, zowel de Gashouder als de Zuiveringshal. Van de opera Antigone in 1993 tot de prachtige installatie van Hans op de Beeck in 2008.
