Efterklang is a Danish pop group that was founded in January 2001 in Copenhagen. The name of the band is Danish for ‘memory’ or ‘reverberation’. The group consists of four core members, namely keyboardist and flutist Mads Brauer, singer Casper Clausen, drummer and trumpeter Thomas Husmer and bassist and guitarist Rasmus Stolberg. In the early years, pianist Rune Mølgaard was also part of this core group, but since 2007, he has stayed more in the background. For performances, this formation is generally extended with three or four guest musicians who are closely related to the group: Peter Broderick (violin and vocals), Niklas Antonson (trombone and vocals), Anna Brønsted (piano and vocals) and Frederik Teige (guitar and vocals).
The band puts out albums on their British-American label, The Leaf Label, but also has their own label, Rumraket (Danish for ‘space rocket’), on which the band Grizzly Bear appears, among others. In 2003, Efterklang self-published the EP Springer, which came out again in 2005 on The Leaf Label. Other releases by Efterklang are
Tripper (2004),
Swarming (2005, single),
One Sided LP (2006),
Under Giant Trees (2007) and the 7” single
Caravan from 2008. Their second studio album,
Parades, from 2007, won various awards and scored 38th on the British Clash Magazine‘s list of best albums appearing between 2005 and 2009. In 2009, the group recorded
Performing Parades, a live performance of their award-winning album. This year, on 22 February, the label 4AD released Efterklang’s third studio album,
Magic Chairs.
