We had the pleasure of attending several events and performances at the 2007 edition of the Holland Festival. We were based in Berlin for most of that year and before returning to Australia both of us had the opportunity to experience, compare and contrast most of the major European art festivals. And without doubt, from a non-European perspective, the Holland Festival has a clear leadership position. For myself I would regard it as being amongst the top three in Europe. Put simply, the programming of the festival presents a rigorous mix of major cultural figures and their work, in combination with new investigations into form and arts innovation. There is a clear assertion of international standards being created, not just aspired to.
As an international festival director, I am required to attend festivals the world over and, in my opinion, Holland Festival is amongst the finest. The breadth of artistic genres offered; the programming of works of tremendous innovation, scale and excellence; and the freshness of its vision - all make the Holland Festival an annual 'must-see' for my own explorations. In my view, the Holland Festival annually provides a magnificent guide to the current Zeitgeist in 21st Century arts. I especially believe that under the direction of Pierre Audi the Festival has bloomed into one of the top ten internationally.

Naar onze vaste overtuiging is het Holland Festival een project van belang in Amsterdam. Het initieert bijzondere projecten en ontwikkelt internationale programmering –iets wat buiten het festival opvallend ontbreekt in deze stad. Het Holland Festival werkt van harte samen met andere internationale instellingen en festivals, zoals het KunstenfestivaldesArts in Brussel dat op haar beurt graag samenwerkt met het Holland Festival om samen projecten mogelijk te maken en te presenteren van makers-van–nu die in Europa en in de gehele wereld een sleutelrol vervullen.
Het Holland Festival kijkt vooruit, en biedt daarmee een breed beeld van de nieuwste ontwikkelingen in de (podium) kunsten. Het heeft daarin een lange traditie opgebouwd waarvan de belangrijkste eigenschap is dat het daar nooit in berust of vastloopt.
It is with the greatest of pleasure and professional respect that I recommend the Holland Festival to my local and global colleagues. The innovative and progressive artistic program with consistency advances our awareness and knowledge of art in the performing, media, visual and scenic arts. It is both the range and depth of the works that are either produced or presented, commissioned or co-commissioned that distinguish the aesthetics of this Festival. The realm of new ideas and techniques within a global perspective and the quality of those works that place this artistic initiative in the City of Amsterdam on our professional horizons prompt us to attend annually. Toen ik nog in Brussel woonde was het Holland Festival één van de redenen om naar Amsterdam te komen. Nu ik er zelf woon, is de waardevolle en internationale kunst alleen nog maar dichter bij.

The famous Holland Festival, with its commitment to progressive and innovative programming, is hosting a tribute to the greatest Arab singer of all time, Oum Kalthoum, in a production of the Beiteddine Festival of Lebanon.
