Holland Festival

Depuis de longues années, nous avons établi avec le Holland Festival tout comme avec les Wienerfestwochen ou le Lincoln Center Festival de New York par exemple un mode de collaboration qui repose sur la confiance dans le partage de points de vues qui concernent les choix artistiques tout comme leurs financements. Peu d’institutions dans le monde sont ainsi engagées pour défendre ensemble la création dans toutes les disciplines, les plus anciennes et reconnues, tout comme celles qui s’inventent de nos jours avec les nouvelles technologies. Le passage par le Holland Festival est pour les créateurs, artistes, compagnies, un point de rencontre avec un public dont la finesse de jugement et l’enthousiasme sont reconnus. Le succès à Amsterdam en juin laisse augurer de succès prometteurs sur la route des festivals d’été qui suivent à Aix-en-Provence, Salzburg ou Edinbourg. J’espère que nos festivals pour suivront longtemps leur coopération et mesure avec plaisir la force des liens d’amitié qui se sont établis entre nous au fil des années.

Recht op risico: Niet voor niets bracht het Holland Festival een eerbetoon aan de baanbrekende componist Edgard Varèse. De krampachtige angst voor het vreemde van deze tijd werkt beperkend en beklemmend en legt het risico van vernieuwing lam. En daarmee ook de kunst. De Veenfabriek heeft een risicovolle structuur. We zijn flexibel en bereid om op ieder moment te reageren, van planning te veranderen, belangwekkende thema’s aan te pakken en het vreemde te omarmen. Dat geldt ook voor het Holland Festival dat ons ook in 2009 de ruimte heeft gegeven voor een spannende onderneming: Kristal, een concertant portret over Edgard Varèse met het sireneorkest op de vijver van het Westergasterrein.

Durant les dernières années, le Holland Festival s’est imposé, sans nul doute, comme un des Festivals les plus importants du monde pour deux raisons essentielles: - En 1er par l’excellence musicale et théâtrale des spectacles présentés et autres activités, en produisant et accueillant les plus grands artistes vivants. Donc un festival moderne. - En 2ème par son approche multidisciplinaire, permettant ainsi des rencontres et des échanges dans des domaines différents, source de créativité. Ainsi, les plus grands représentants d’institutions internationales sont, et seront dans le futur, intéressés pour être partenaires du Holland Festival.

Het Holland Festival hanteert een goede balans tussen traditie en vernieuwing. Jong talent krijgt door uitdagende opdrachten interessante kansen.

We had the pleasure of attending several events and performances at the 2007 edition of the Holland Festival. We were based in Berlin for most of that year and before returning to Australia both of us had the opportunity to experience, compare and contrast most of the major European art festivals. And without doubt, from a non-European perspective, the Holland Festival has a clear leadership position. For myself I would regard it as being amongst the top three in Europe. Put simply, the programming of the festival presents a rigorous mix of major cultural figures and their work, in combination with new investigations into form and arts innovation. There is a clear assertion of international standards being created, not just aspired to.

The Festival is absolutely the prime destination internationally to discover the deepest and most significant experiences in the arts today. The extent to which this has consistently been the case over such a long period of time is truly remarkable.

In juni ga ik nooit met vakantie. Dan reis ik cultureel, in mijn theaterstoel. Bij het HF. Aan het eind van de maand heb ik meer van de wereld gezien.

Holland Festival - like the Arts should be: "A safe place for unsafe ideas".

Grote commotie toen ik ruim tien jaar geleden voorstelde het HF op te heffen, voor dat moment gewoon een goed voorstel. Inmiddels ben ik een van de trouwste bezoekers, en cultuurminnaar. Voor mij is het niet meer uit juni weg te denken. Alleen jammer dat het altijd samenvalt met Oerol…

Ob als Zuschauer, oder ob als eingeladener Regisseur: wann immer ich in den vergangenen Jahren am HOLLAND FESTIVAL teilhaben durfte, empfand ich den künstlerischen Reichtum und die außerordentliche Vielfalt dieses Festivals als besonders bemerkenswert. Und auch das so eigene Flair der Stadt schafft jedes Mal eine geradezu magische Festivalatmosphäre, auf die ich mich auch in diesem Jahr wieder sehr freue, wie auch auf das neugierige, inspirierte und dankbare Amsterdamer Publikum.
